One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of a lake or pond is to spend some time fishing. The best time to catch bass is in late spring and early summer, when they are typically shallow and near cover. By midsummer, they move to deeper waters. A great place to fish during this time is any body of water with a current. During this time, fish are attracted to scented baits.
If you're planning a family fishing trip, try one of the many local ponds and lakes. There is still plenty of trout to be caught. The Aroostook River and ponds are fishing well, with the lower section producing giant trout than the upper section. The Deboullie area is always a good spot for pond fishing. Another excellent location to go fishing is a more petite body of water with 5-8 inches of ice. Many anglers are catching up to 18" space in these small bodies of water. Try fishing for them in a small jig or bait in shallow waters. A pond may be a perfect choice if you are looking for a more challenging activity. Fishing in a pond or lake can be a relaxing and rejuvenating activity to get the whole family outside. In South Dakota, you can even fish all year long. However, if you're interested in catching brown trout, you'll need to look deeper into the water. Little Sebago Lake and Hancock Pond are great places to try your luck. While there are still many lakes and ponds that are still frozen in the middle of winter, you should be able to find a few fishable glasses of water. Some ponds, like Unity Pond in northern Maine, have hundreds of geese roost on the pond and head out at first light to feed in nearby fields. It's also essential to have a federal duck stamp. These stamps are available at your local post office. When you're ready to go fishing, stock up on various bait. Canned tuna, cheese, and canned corn are great baits attracting multiple fish species. Try fishing in different places, and you may find your new favorite place!
